Involve! Include! Improve!
Movie Nights - July 2017
Dancer in the Dark - 5/7 The Great Dictator - 12/7 Nine Queens - 19/7 Coffee and Cigarettes - 26/7 FB Events Went & Interested: 60&180 We did some workshops in Teatro Metaphora, aiming to improve the competences of our staff members, volunteers and collaborators. It was almost childrens' day, so we decided days before to make a small session in order to learn how to do face painting.
We repeated this session in July, as we got the request from a local partner to do a face-painting activity with their children. Have a look. In March 2017 Youth Discovery Ventures published an EVS call for our new EVS project in Sheffield, we received more than 300 applications in just three weeks. Reading and assessing all the applications was a tough procedure, but finding suitable candidates for the interviews turned out to be easier than we expected. Reading the cover letters, we noticed that too many candidates, even the more skilled and experienced ones, struggled to clearly express their specific interest in the project. Many cover letters contained irrelevant information and seemed to be sent, unmodified, to apply for more than one EVS project. Applying for different projects in the same period is a very natural and common practice for such a competitive scheme as EVS, but it’s important that aspiring volunteers understand that, in order to be really competitive, they should focus more on the quality of their production instead of simply sending out lots of applications. In a short video (that has at last count been watched 162 times) published on our website and on our Youtube channel we tried to explain what we’d like to read in a motivational letter and the mistakes not to make: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L28_WVvbjBI Giving these little tips we hope to help people interested in EVS can increase their chances to participate in a project that really matches their interests and aspirations, making an informed choice and achieving the maximum from their future EVS experience. Velvet Breeze (Yro and Savvas) shared their music with us and with violin, guitar and voice they dressed acoustically a warm night of midsummer relaxation on YY's terrace. FB Event Went & Interested: 25&45 On 8 June we also organized a discussion in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia with people who have already participated in various projects, e.g.:
Ivka has been on several exchanges and trainings (for example in the UK, Serbia, Italy) as well as in the European volunteer service in Portugal. Michaela was 2 months as a volunteer in Ankara, in exchange for the UK and Serbia. Lulu on EVS in Paris ... in addition, Lenka from ADEL has clarified how these projects work, what conditions you have to meet, how to apply and answered all your questions 🙂 More info here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1352968921460505/ and here: https://www.adelslovakia.org/events/na-cestach-s-adel-ii |
