Involve! Include! Improve!
Over a 2 day festival we engaged at least 200 people, supported 10 new volunteers to deliver activities in the local community and learn more about international volunteering.
YDV hosted activities at Sharrow Festival. We also invited all of the local EVS volunteers down to join us and spent the day discussing experiences and sharing stories with members of the public. We had EVS volunteers from 4 different projects in Sheffield join us.
We also met the Sheffield Lord Mayor Magid and spoke to him about the work we do through Erasmus+. Engaging at least 120 people, we offered activities at a local festival and spoke to them about Erasmus+ activities. We were also invited to speak on one of the stages to discuss the work we do through Erasmus+ and the difference it makes and how this work is important to "peace" and how we promote social cohesion through E+ projects.
At the Food Festival, Youth Discovery Ventures hosted children's activities to engage them in talking about food. We also asked them to guess some of the traditional foods from our EVS volunteers' countries and spoke to them about Erasmus+ and European cultures.
Sharing best practice with international partners in Greece, Rachel visited 2 new partners in Thessonaliki and supported them in completing EVS accreditation and sharing best practice for engaging EVS volunteers in local activities.
Youth Discovery Ventures hosted 25 participants for a youth exchange in Sheffield about sustainability. The event included lots of public engagement activities to promote Erasmus Plus and youth exchanges. Including a litter pick and hosting a clothes swap event that welcomed nearly 100 participants.
More EVS arrivals in Sheffield, hosted by a different organisation that we have supported to become accreditated to host EVS. We organised a get together social event to discuss experiences of EVS and welcome them to Sheffield.
To say Merry Christmas to our local community, our EVS volunteers made christmas tree decorations to be given to local residents. We also provided information about Erasmus+ and how the EVS would normally celebrate Christmas in their home countries. We sent out 180 gifts!
We hosted public activities at a local bonfire night event, talking to them about different cultural traditions from other cultures in Europe and discussing Erasmus+.
To welcome our new EVS volunteers we organised a social event - a walk in the Peak District for them to get to know the area better and meet new people.
